Rebates for Queensland Pool Owners

How you can save money AND be rewarded.

With the winter almost over and the weather starting to heat up in Brisbane, pool owners are pulling off their pool covers and getting their pools ready for use once more. But this season, there is exciting news for pool owners in south east Queensland with Energex offering financial incentives for those that operate energy efficient pool pumps or connect their pump to an off peak tariff.

As well as carrying out pool filter repairs in Wynnum and across Brisbane, our electricians here at Bevan Robinson Electrical also can connect your pool pump to a more economical option. We explain how you could be eligible for generous rebates and ways to save money on pool operating costs below.

What do I need to do to receive the rebate?

South East Queensland swimming pool owners who install a minimum 5 star energy efficient pool pump OR who connect their existing pool pump to off peak energy tariff (economy tariff 33) can be eligible to receive a rebate from Energex.

For owners connecting to an off peak tariff , a 250 dollar rebate applies and those who install a 5 star energy efficient pool pump a 150 dollar rebate is available.

What is the purpose of the program?

Energex introduced this Pool Rewards Program as one of their strategies to ease energy demand during peak periods. Since pool pumps account for almost 20 per cent of household energy bills, regulating their use during peak periods (4-8pm) eases pressure on energy infrastructure and reduces pool operating costs for homeowners.

How does connecting to a different tariff ease pressure?

Economy tariff 33 provides electricity for 18 hours a day which is still enough to run pools equipment effectively and not affect sanitation levels. This tariff is offered at 30 per cent less cost than the regular tariff.

How do I connect to this tariff?

One of our authorised electricians will be able to arrange the connection. We can submit an electrical work request to Energex and after connection you will need to call your energy retailer to inform them of the connection.

How much will I save by changing tariffs or pumps?

Pool owners will save approximately 200 dollars per year from connecting to tariff 33 as well as the one off rebate of $250.00. Those who change pumps to one with a minimum 5 star energy rating (which are up to 80 per cent more efficient) will receive the 150 dollar one off rebate and can expect to save approximately 300 dollars per year on energy costs.
